If you visit Tasmania in April, there's a great chance that you'll share the island with loads of motor enthusiasts. Every year since 1992, the Targa Tasmania rally has taken over about 2000 kilometres of the Apple Isle's tarmac roads.

The rally runs over several competitive stages on closed — and highly challenging — roads with some of the best touring, sports and GT cars in the world.

This year, April 15-20, they raced through the Tasmanian countryside — cheered on by large crowds — on the city stages of Georgetown, Longford, New Norfolk and Hobart.

The rally attracts more than 200,000 people each year and is also a great community event, with many schools participating in the official starts and finishes. Students entertain and assist as flag bearers and scorers as Targa stages pass through their hometowns.
